These insect portraits began as Gail Morrison’s large pen-and-ink drawings, which she scanned. The insects’ elaborate and fanciful environments were created digitally, beginning with fractal patterns and using many layers of textures, colors and imagery. The pixels on these layers combine and interact with each other digitally, in varying ways and to varying degrees. Gail is especially interested in interweaving patterns and textures to establish an emotional background for an image that will evoke stories in the mind and heart of the viewer. Entrance is free and gallery hours are Mon-Thurs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The variety of creatures in the insect world is truly marvelous. Insects are everywhere, and although they sometimes bother us they are just trying to make their way in the world like everybody else. Their bodies have very complex and beautiful shapes and structures; the more closely you look, the more interesting they become.
