Richmond Open Studios Returns for Its Third Year with Record-Breaking Artist Participation
Richmond, CA — The Visual Artists of Richmond is thrilled to announce the 3rd Richmond Open Studios (ROS), a free, city-wide celebration of local visual art taking place on Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year marks a major milestone with a record-breaking number of artists—up to 90—registered to participate.
Artist Sadiqeh Agah is a member of the Visual Artists of Richmond, the group that organizes Richmond Open Studios. She explains that ROS was created “with the intention of fostering a diverse, safe, equitable, and accessible space for Richmond artists to show and sell their work,” adding that Richmond Open Studios “is part of Richmond’s transformation into an arts destination.”
During the event, half of the participating artists will open their personal studios to the public, offering a chance to see behind the scenes of the creative process. The remaining 42 artists will exhibit their work at one of four partner venues across Richmond: Richmond Art Center, NIAD Art Center, Richmond Museum of History and Culture, and Point Richmond Gallery.
VAR Director Rebeca Garcia-Gonzalez points out that its popularity among artists probably stems from the fact that “it is entirely artist-organized and funded through sponsorships, registration fees and individual donations,” adding that young and emerging artists receive support through workshops and one-on-one assistance.
To plan your visit, you can download the official ROS guidebook from the Visual Artists of Richmond website or pick up a printed copy at any of the four partner venues. The guide organizes participating artists by day and by location, and includes helpful maps.
