Call for Artists

Description

Theme: Sense of Place will bring together artwork inspired by the colors, plants, architecture and people of the Richmond and San Pablo area. 

Gallery Location: San Pablo Community Center, 250 Road 20, San Pablo. 

Exhibition Dates: January 16 - March 3, 2026

Submission Fee: None

Who Can Apply: Visual Artists of Richmond member artists 

Artist Selection: 3-5 artists with complete applications will be selected by the Visual Artists of Richmond Leadership Team.

Size of Artwork: Artwork (framed or not) should be no larger than 36” in any direction. There is a lot of wall space for work smaller than 16 x 20”, and some space for larger 2D works. The gallery has two pedestals with vitrines that can accommodate 3D artwork that is smaller than 2 feet in any direction.

Art That Won’t Be Considered
Please, original work only. Don’t submit gicleé prints, color or B & W copies.

Art created before 2021.

Note that the San Pablo Community Center’s gallery does not show art that includes weapons or nudity. Because of this policy, work of this nature cannot be part of this show.

Reception: January 17, 2026 from 2 - 4 pm. During the reception, artists can set up a table in the community space to show and sell additional artwork. Artists taking advantage of this perk must set up and breakdown between 1:30 - 4 pm and be able to manage their own sales and merchandise throughout the reception.

Submit the interest form on this page for consideration by Tuesday July 15 at 5:00 pm.
Upload a file or files with good quality images of work you already have that could fit the theme for this show.

If selected, you can either create new work for the show, or include recent work (2022 or older) that fits the show’s theme.

Deadline for interest form submission.

Friday, July 18, 2025
Artists selected and notified. Title of show, names of artists and one to two images sent to SPCC for postcard and City brochure. SPCC will print and provide 500 postcards.

Monday, December 15, 2025
Deadline for artist to submit all exhibit label information (artist name, title, media (“mixed media” is fine), dimensions) directly to SPCC. 

Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at 10 am
Please be on time. Artwork drop-off at San Pablo Community Center. 2D artwork must be dropped off with a hanging wire installed across the back; the gallery hanging system cannot accommodate any other type of hanging hardware.

Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at 10 am
Artwork pick up at San Pablo Community Center. The SPCC cannot store your work if you miss the pickup and their insurance on your work will expire after that date and time. Please make alternate arrangements for a friend or relative to pick it up if you cannot.
